The COVID-19 PCR (polymerase chain reaction) test is a molecular test that identifies active infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus at the time of collection. The test looks for the presence of viral RNA in a sample of secretions taken by a swab from the nose and throat. Results are obtained in less than 72 hours. This screening test is approved by Health Canada.

What happens if you get a COVID-19 positive test result?

The traveler who gets a positive result for the COVID-19 rapid antigen detection test will be covered by New Brunswick Public Health.
